Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th place as his team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
